84-Year-Old Woman’s Dying Wish: Don’t Vote for Harry Reid!

This is really pretty amazing, almost unbelievable.

The daughters of Charlotte McCourt, a former volunteer for Nevada Sen. Harry Reid, wrote an obituary for their mother which was published on Tuesday by the Las Vegas Review-Journal. Pretty standard stuff in the beginning, but it ended with this political bombshell:

“We believe that Mom would say she was mortified to have taken a large role in the election of Harry Reid to U.S. Congress. . . . In lieu of flowers, vote for another more worthy candidate.”

Ouch! That’s a pretty powerful from-the-grave slam on the nation’s Senate Majority Leader.

Even more powerful considering McCourt and her family, Mormons like Reid, aren’t wild-eyed right-wing Republican extremists. Her husband was “an active union member” and the family is described by the Las Vegas Review-Journal as “lifelong conservative Democrats” who “became more disillusioned over time with the direction that the party and Reid wanted to take the country, particularly on social and fiscal issues.”

The RJ further reports that Sherry D’Hulst, one of Mrs. McCourt’s daughters who co-wrote the obituary, said her family is “against excessive federal spending programs, including the new health care law.” The paper quotes D’Hulst as saying “we have a government now that has sold us down the river.”

The newspaper, in an unrelated editorial published two days after the obituary, seconded those emotions:

“A vote for Harry Reid in November is a vote to continue down an unsustainable path of bigger, more repressive government,” the state’s largest paper declared. “A vote for Harry Reid is a reward for a man who already ramrodded enactment of an ObamaCare bill that will suck an extra $7 billion out of small businesses in the next decade.”

Remember in November Mrs. McCourt’s dying wish and vote against Harry Reid.
